NVIDIA GS vs GT

What's the difference between an NVIDIA GS card and a GT card?
(i.e. 7600GS vs. 7600GT)

Both entry level cards. The GS is what I use and am very happy with it. It
plays every game I own on full settings with the exception of MOHAB, which
it struggles with. The advantage, in my opinion, is that the GS is passively
cooled and silent, whereas the GT will sound like a hair dryer once you get
into a game.

I wouldn't quite say entry level, the typical sub-$100 video
cards are significantly slower than the GT version, but then
the GT was selling for around $150 earlier in it's product
lifecycle... it's a great bargain when it can be had for
under $80 after a rebate but today would struggle a bit with
higher resolution gaming or use of more than median levels
of eyecandy.

Swap the heatsink on a GT and it can run quietly, I dont'
really see the GS being quieter as an advantage as any card
slower than a GT will also run with a passive heatsink (if
one of the last two generations instead of something
ancient).

Everyone should either bookmark this page or copy it to HDD (as I have).
It's very useful for a "rule of thumb" comparision of graphics cards of
differing generations or suffixes:

It's really handy to know roughly where a given card sits on the performance
ladder. For instance, on that chart, the two cards that you mentioned are
three 'tiers' apart, the GT being far more 'powerful' than the GS.

All-in-all a very useful chart.
