after what seemingly OK install, reboot.but no way to get two independent
display going

no display device found in dev mgr and no icon for NVIDIA control panel in
sys tray. however control panel for windows xp does show NVIDIA display
driver as installed in the add/remove programs applet panel

furthermore the there no NVIDIA service in the services.msc
However no sign of installation trouble in windows event logs despite the
displays connected the NVIDIA card's div and d-sub ports are displaying
identical image

what can I do to fix?

I tried re-install, installing the one that came with cd, also tried the one
I download for the latest

the PC main board is P4M800Pro-M (AGP X8)

Btw the video card was working before with dual view (2 independent display)
until a BSOD a few weeks back and some one tried replacing the video card to
no avail.

After the BSOD, did you have to reload any system files? Something may have
been corrupted by whatever caused it. Have you tried a System Restore to a
point before the BSOD?

You can try uninstalling the Nvidia display drivers. Then shut down the PC,
remove the AGP card, connect your monitor cable to the built-in VGA port,
and boot back up. Once the Standard VGA drivers are installed, reboot if it
asks you to. If not, shut it down, put the AGP card back in, and reconnect
the monitor cable to it. Boot into BIOS (press Delete or F1 on boot-up), go
to the PCI/Plug and Play Setup and change the Primary Graphics Adapter to
AGP (if it isn't already). Save and exit.
Once Windows boots back up, you'll probably see the Found New Hardware
wizard. Cancel out of that. If you have any anti-malware and 3rd party
firewalls (like Norton or Zone Alarm), temporarily turn them off. Run the
Nvidia setup program, reboot, and make sure your firewall and anti-malware
programs are re-enabled. See if it all works now.

You could try this to remove your Nvidia drivers. (Nvidia - Nasty File
Remover)

I would use Add-Remove to uninstall your present drivers first, use the
above tool and reboot into Safe Mode to install the new drivers (while in
Safe Mode, disable your Anti-Virus,Anti-Spyware and Firewall before
installing the new drivers)
Upon reboot , re-enable the above programs before connecting to the
Internet.

thx. so it seems I either start from scratch with a new os or restore form
an older image would give me a better chance.

the card was removed and plugged back in before. and I don't know what the
other person did trying to fix the problem.

what about some how using both built-in and AGP graphic card?

Most MB's won't allow the use of an AGP and a PCI card. Wouldn't hurt to
try, though.
