well, in very early 2004, you had never heard of a 6800 Nvidia card, either.

the G70 GPU is the new GPU, beyond the NV40

the 7800 is the new card, beyond the 6800

....which probably won't be on the shelf until this time next year.
Nvidia leaked some potential specs to test water, see the market
response, and in particular to get a response from ATI.

Maybe not...the 7800 is expected to be at Computext May/June. The same is
hoped of ATI R520 technology (although it's more likely ATI will show off
the MVP at Computext instead)...whether or not the cards will be ready soon
after is, really, anyone's guess. But it is possible that they could be on
shelves within two months of that - looking for an August/Late September
(and thus Christmas!!) release.

At any rate, it appears as if both manufacturers are almost poised for
instant release if the other does so any time over the next few months.

I guess we're really all just gonna have to wait until Computext and the
aftermath...and then maybe drool, and then maybe go hungry for a few weeks
while we save up to the ridiculous amount of money we'll need.

Or we can use the opportunity to buy a current top-end model nice and cheap!
Hello 6800 Ultra!

You don't seriously believe the 7800 GTX will be available in decent
quantities two months after being shown at a trade show, do you? If the GF6
/ X800 are any indication, expect six months minimum.

OK. I dunno, I'm just pretty much parroting what I've read at a couple of
sites that said it *could* be possible.
