I hope this is the correct group to post this to. If
not, my apologies.
I have XP home edition and have it set up to check for
the updates and inform me of them. Yesterday I got a
message for an nvidia driver update. There was no
information listed for it but I went ahead and downloaded
it. Now it's on my taskbar and in Control Panel but I
have no idea what it does or why I was recommended to
download this from Microsoft. I've checked the Windows
and nvidia websites but there is no 'user information' to
let me know what it does.
Is this a neccesary update to XP?
How do I find out more about what it does?
or How can I get rid of it safely?

Thanks
John Kyle

It's just a shortcut Nvidia puts there to easly access
thier Video Tools. You can leave it there or get rid of
it, either way it doesn't effect your system. If you
want to get rid of the icon on your taskbar right click
on it and select exit.

Display Driver updates from Windows Update are quite
common, the reason why you were offered to install it was
based on the Hardware information for your display card.
The reason why you have the new control panel applets and
sys tray icon is because its just part of the overall
package, they should not harm or interfere with your
system at all. I think its always a good thing to install
all drivers from Windows Update, a lot of these are
posted in resposne to user concerns about system crashes,
keeping up with new drivers helps prevent problems. If
you have any problems after installing drivers from WU,
always report them.
