Nvidia claims chipset problems have been solved, customers disagree

Are there similar issues with nForce 4 and/or nForce 5?

It's a very messy situation - some people with some mbrds and some HDDs
cannot make it work; others have no problems at all... with all nForce
mbrds which have SATA II. Note the large number of people running the EVGA
680i mbrd with apparent success... though I've no idea if this might be due
to the fact that EVGA has more than one source for mbrd mfr. I've no doubt
that some of it is likely incompetence and/or mismatched components.

For nForce4 there was undoubtedly a problem with Maxtor SATA II drives and
the story goes that you needed a certain level (3.AAH) of Seagate firmware
for success. Personally, with Seagate drives, I haven't seen any cases
where a system would not work though I've seen a couple of cases of Event
ID: 51 immediately following driver installation - similar things have been
reported for Intel chipset mbrds.

It would appear that the entire industry, chipset mfrs & drive mfrs, jumped
the gun on SATA II and with all the finger pointing, the root source of the
problems has not been uncovered, even now.
