Internet was working Wednesday PM. Friday AM cant connect to broadband.
Rebooted modem to no avail. After checking found that Nvidia n Force
Networking Controller is not working properly (code 31). Went to Nivida
website using another PC and got updated drivers but didnt work. Does anyone
have any ideas??

Hi DKmoneypit,

Perform a 'System Restore' to a time when the Internet was working. Next,
manually run 'Windows Update'. You will probably have this optional update
listed (along with some others): 'NVIDIA driver update for NVIDIA nForce
Networking Controller'. If you have, then this is what is causing you
problems. I recommend that you do NOT install optional updates. These updates
are usually for hardware devices and are therefore best obtained directly
from the manufacturer. As long as you have the recommended and critical
updates installed, there should be no problems.

I understand that three sub-oceanic cables passing through the Suez Canal
have been damaged by a passing ship. Hence the Internet as well as voice
traffic has been affected and one cannot easily reach the desired web-sites.

Just keep in touch with your local news sources to check when the cables
will get repaired

yI'm having the same problem. Windows update is calling the 'nVidia -
Networking - NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller' an important update. Yet,
everytime I install it, I can no longer connect to the internet and must
"Restore" my computer. This has been happening for the past week and now
I've found that after letting the the update sit on my taskbar, it decided to
install on its own. Once again, creating the same problem. Is there a way
around this update, either by not installing it or some corrective actions
after installing it?

I'm having the same problem with the updates. After figuring it out; I stopped automatic updates. The update appears everyday and I just delete it.

I've now done the same thing, but I guess my concern is when Vista SP1 comes
out, will this update be included and create a larger problem than already
exists? I'd hate to install SP1 and not connect to the internet because this
stupid update that doesn't work...I'm guessing I won't be able to restore
after installing SP1? I'd like to resolve this issue (NVIDIA nForce Network
Controller important update?) before it's too late.

Correct. You cannot use a restore point created with Vista Gold once you
install SP1. You cannot cross version boundaries with system restore. What
you should do is image the entire hard disk before applying SP1 so that you
can seamlessly restore your pre-SP1 Vista if SP1 again breaks your
connectivity.

Is there a thread or column that describes how to create and image and what
exactly it is? I'd actually hope that Microsoft would get involved and
correct this issue first. I'd like to have and keep SP1 once it's released...
