Downloaded new Nvidia 96.85 x86 drivers and they will not load. I get an
error msg stating that I am not running Windows Vista, even though I am
running Windows Vista RC2 Build 5744 and video card is a Nvidia GeForce 6600
256mb video memory.
I was really hoping that these drivers would work and gaming would be
improved.
I followed the instructions and turned off virus software and unloaded old
Nvidia drivers but it still gives me error.
Anyone else having any luck with these drivers.

Dan

I just updated mine as administrator. I am showing driver version 9.6.8.5
dated 10/9/06 on the display adapter properties. I don't see much of a
change, but hopefully I am using the new driver.

They installed ok for me (an upgrade from the video drivers off the RC2
DVD), but when I logged in and got my desktop after the reboot, the screen
then blanked for several seconds and a message appeared in the system tray
saying that the display driver had stopped responding but had
recovered...will monitor it and see if this behaviour persists.

Nick,
I use to get that stopped responding msg with 96.33 but I have not gotten it
with the drivers that came with RC2 (96.77).
I have still been unable to load the new 96.85 drivers. Keeping getting same
error msg half way thru the load stating I am not running Windows Vista and
these drivers are for Vista only. They also try to use partition C when Vista
is on G. I change to G but still get the error.
I wonder if it is because I am running a duel boot with XP and it is seeing
the C drive only and XP?

My Vista install is on D with Xp x64 on C, I had no problem installing the
drivers. nVidia is writing the setup files to C and actually creates
separate sub-folders for each different OS install. I have a subfolder for
Vista x64, Vista, and XP x64. Each OS having had an nVidia driver install
sometime over the past couple of months.

i have the same problem, only for the 64 bit version. does anyone have any
idea how to solve this? (apart from the "drive letter mix up"?

I finally got it to load. When I went to download the 96.85 driver file
again, I ran it instead of saving it and then running it from a downloaded
file.
It seems to be working great. Gaming has improved. I am now able to play
Doom 3 without any problem.
I will have to check it out some more and keep my fingers crossed that it
works completely.

Thanks for input,
Dan
