Hi.
I just installed Vista Ultima and have now to live with a very noisy graphic
card it seams. On WinXP it was only blowing when starting up and playing
games but now the fan is running 24/7. I try to play around with the Power
settings on Vista and by using the power savings i could get it to stop
blowing but it also did not blow when i was playing games so i am afraid it
will run to warm so i switched back to normal again. I try the lates
official driver from Nvidia but nothing helped except i cant read a word it
said as i am living in China and it dosent give me an option to select
english language, so there was my second problem, the automatic localization,
but that is a Nvidia problem i assume, anyway if you have an easy solution
for it please tell me.

Thanks. Finn

Nvidia cards have a driver-controlled fan. During boot-up, the driver isn't
loaded so the fan runs at 100%. Once the driver loads, the fan speed changes
depending on GPU temps.

The fan is running more in Vista because the card is runs hotter rendering
Aero. When you select the "Power Saver" mode it puts the GPU in low-power
mode. This disables Aero and your card cools down. (Playing games in Power
Saver mode won't cook your card, but you won't get much performance either.)

If you want behavior similar to XP, just turn Aero Glass off: Now you will
only heat up the GPU when running 3D apps.

Hi Again.
I tryed to deactivate Aero yesterday and let the PC run all night, this
morning the card was still blowing same as yesterday. I use the latest driver
from Nvidia.
I also change colors to 16k insyead of 32k and used only black desktop
background.
So nothing has changed. Can you please help again.

Thanks. Finn

I have an EVGA 7600GT and it's almost inaudiable on a custom built box that
has all it's other 6 fans running on auto speed control at about 1/2 speed
and whisper quite when the Dual Core CPU idles which is most of the time but
the fans spool up and roar like a lion when the CPU is at full load.

Not too many tools allow changing this card's settings but this tool works
for me.

I keep it on manual set to 65% speed while over clocking the GPU core to
630MHz and memory to 1525MHz. It's driving a 20.5" LCD widescreen monitor
running at it's native resolutation of 1680x1050 and 32 bit color using
Vista Business x86.

It gives me a Vista PI of 5.9 for desktop Aero graphics and 5.1 for gaming
graphics and I'm very pleased with this low end Nvidia graphics card.

I installed the expert tool and set it to 65% but the card stil blow like
before, thaere is no change. I give up.

Thanks anyway

Well since the cards speed was most likely already near 65% I'm not at all
surprised it's sound level didn't change.

So you just gave up without even trying a very low or even 0% to see if it's
just a noisy fan that possibly needs replacement?

I give up! ;>)

I actually tryed also with 0% but the fan was still running, not so fast but
you could still hear it. I am not sure about the fan replacement, the thing
is that when i run XP the card stops completely and is only activated when i
play games. I would like it to run the same as in XP without any special
tools. I hope that it will be fixed in a later driver update.

If that's your goal then you need to contact Nvidia about their driver
and/or ask them for a replacement fan.

Hi.

I try to contact Nvidia but ofcause no reply. Than i installed the latest
158,18 driver yesterday but no changes except i could read it now, it did not
install in chinese. :)
It is realy giving me a headache to listen to the fan sound all day and when
i set to powersaving in vista than i can remove the fan slows down but the
system also get very slow. I think the only way for me is to go back to
Winxp. sad to say.

Thanks. Finn
