Try using this tool to remove old drivers:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Cleaner.shtml

then download the correct driver from here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

First of all thank you for the reply Jim

like you said i downloaded the driver clean program
uninstald the drivers then whent to the official site
of nvidia. Downloaded the latest drivers
tryd to install them and got the error

Setup has detected you are using a difrent windows then vista
these drivers are made for vista only
setup wil exit nowe.

Did you download the 97.46 drivers or the more recent 100.59 Beta drivers?
In any case I suggest that you try both of them if the one you downloaded
does not work.

i tried the following drivers
since i used the program above

97.46
100.54
100.59

non work and non wil install the drivers because the all say the same
im installing the drivers on a non vista platform.

Since i used the program above he dusent even see the Gforce as a Gforce
anymore
he says its a standar agp card with no special functions.

i tried to force installation manulee with the driver verson mensiont above
but then my card isent in the list.

You might try uninstalling the current graphics driver using this tool and
instructions -
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Cleaner.shtml

Hi,
I have also had the error message that states these drivers are intended for
vista. I had to run the setup to the point where it offers a folder to
extract the files to, then after that is complete cancel the install. Go to
device manager and open the graphics device and update the driver pointing
it to the location where the drivers extracted to. Then the 97.46 driver
installed correctly. (although the performance is not wht I get from XP, I
have a Geforce 6600)

Neil

I Have the same card as you and Nvidia havent released drivers for the FX5
series, and i doubt they will support it within Vista

im using the drivers within Vista and they seem to work fine as ive had no
problems

ill try to help,
drivers for the Nvidia Gforce 5600 256mb
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_96.85.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_96.85.html
first link is 64-bit vista and second is 32-bit vista
on any of these pages it gives "Products Supported" (link)
now may i add, im using the FX5950 ultra card with these drivers and get a
rating
in vista 64bit ultimate of 2.0; graphics is slow/choppy due what i think is
bad graphics drivers. vista default drivers are no different!
when nvidia lift thier game and bring out working drivers thing should
be resolved( we hope)
p.ps. i hope these drivers work better for you than they have for
me..good luck

Until NVIDIA has made all of the driver changes they need to in order to
take adavantage of the graphic performace and image quality improvements
that are now available in VISTA and supportw the 5xxx series cards as well
as the 6xxx, 7xxx and 8xxx generation of cards with these improvements and
with full functinality that was available in the RTM drivers some of us may
have to suffer from a lower performace rating with drivers that meet all of
our functinal requirements.

Mikey said:
Thanks but those drivers make the rating of the graphics go down

they was 3.0 now there 2.8....

mikey,
can i ask what drivers version you was using and where you got them before
you changed them to the ones i listed?

I

i was using the Microsoft drivers included with Vista which appeard as:

NVIDIA Geforce FX 5600XT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)

Then i used the drivers from nvidia in the link you posted

using the Microsoft drivers the cards rating was 3.0 and when i used the
Nvidia drivers it went down to 2.8

thanks mike for your fast reply,
i guess you are also waitting for Nvidia to release better drivers!
atleast you have a better rating than i did (my rating was 2.2 graphics
and 2.0 overall on both vista and nvidia drivers)so i just un-installed vista
and loaded win xp 64-bit and everything works/runs fine. might do a dual-boot
if i cant be bothered to learn how, lol.
its a shame that microsoft bring out a new operating system and its not
ready to be used because of driver issues, its not like it was five years in
the making or anything,lol.
well, good luck to you and thanks again for responce.
