Hi,

For the lost "search" entry, start by right-clicking the taskbar and
selecting properties, or go start/control panel and open the Taskbar and
Start Menu setting under Appearance and Themes.

For more on defrag, see the link Ramesh has posted for you.

hey nutcase --tkanks for trying! I know I am new at this but do not think of myself as stupid, altough I am begining to wonder -- I did as you said in last reply but ended up where I had been b4 --could not find anything re: the find area --does find still work in XP or is it search?? I am thinking in 98 you went to a line, typyed in a file name & it brought up all related locations to your search -- they were not topics but lines that if you clicked on it, it opens?? Your help pls

Find is called Search in XP. If using the classic style start menu, Search
should already be on the Start Menu.

If using the XP style start menu, you have a choice whether to show this or
not. After getting into the Start Menu settings as Rick told you, click on
the customize button. There is a scrollable list of things you can add or
remove from the start panel. Search is one of them.
