I just upgraded to xp and had ME previously, I had it set up so that when my
computer booted, numbers lock always stayed on, but since I upgraded to XP, I
can't figure out how to get the numbers lock to stay on, any suggestions?

For the current user; set numlock to on, then log off. Windows XP will save
your setting.

Windows NT/ 2000/XP/2003 ignores the bios on this issue. Set the Reg_Sz
string value of
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"="2"
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard
will set the numlock to "On" when no one is logged on. May need to restart
for effect.

ok, how do i get to current user? i only have administrator on comp.....and
don't know how to get to it

never mind, I found user account but nothing in there to set num lock to on,
I put num lock on and logged off and xp didn't save my settings, what now?

It should work. Another method. Set the Reg_Sz string value of
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"="2"
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard

You'll need to edit the registry. Get someone to help you if you're
unfamiliar with it.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT and Win2K, by design, ignores
the BIOS settings for the NumLock key as a standard security feature.
(I'm afraid I can't remember the "security" issue initially addressed.)
By default, the NumLock key is turned off as WinXP starts, and keeps
it off until someone logs in and initializes a user profile. WinXP will
remember the NumLock's last state, meaning that if you log out with the
NumLock on, it will automatically turn on the next time you log in; If
you log out with the NumLock off, it will be off the next time you log in.

If one needs the NumLock on _before_ logging in, a registry edit
can be used to change WinXP's default behavior:
