Numbering

I have pictures that I'm renaming. I put them in order according to date and
then name them then I put numbers on them. I highlight all the pictures and
I right mouse click the top picture and give it a name like ABC (1) and
enter. Now all my pictures are numbered with the name ABC with numbers from
1 to 100. The problem is the last one with the latest date is number 1 then
all the rest fall into place. What can I do about this?

Ambiguous.

Are they numbered n reverse order, or just the latest in the wring order?

Try reversing the sort order and/or highlighting (selecting) the earliest
before starting.
