Hi Maria
If you already have a working heading numbering scheme that gives you the
normal format, then I'd suggest one of the following workarounds:
* Use a LISTNUM field combined with an unnumbered Section level heading
style that otherwise looks like the numbered one. Using that style, type in
the bold [Section], and then insert a level 2 LISTNUM field. Provided you
only have the one list or bullet numbering sequence in your document this
should give you the autonumber from the same sequence. (Unnamed LISTNUM
fields pick up the last numbering sequence so if you have additional bullet
lists intervening you would have to get into named LISTNUMs which is
probably going to be too complex to get to work.)
* Use a hidden section heading for these sections, and then type in a dummy
one. This is a cheat and may cause confusion if someone else edits -
especially if they make insertions earlier in the document, when the
numbering won't update in taht heading correctly- but is probably the
easiest way to do it if you can get away with it.
I must say this makes me glad this isn't my boss or my problem!

I have been handed a document in which I'm applying
numbered headings.
Article I
Section 1
1.1
1.1.1, etc.
In Sections 34, 35 and 36 for some reason there are
brackets around the word "Section" and it's in bold print
(the rest is in regular. As you know, lawyers want these
things just as they write them.
Do I have to set a new heading just for this? What to
do?
Thanks for this and all the help you've given me!
