thanks for the reply!
But I don't see anything like a status bar at the bottom
of my screen when I'm open to my contact "distribution
list" page.
I thought there might be some "edit preference" or "view"
choice I could make that would cause numbers to show up
next to the names. But I can find no such options.

Re size of contacts. Are you saying that an Outlook 2000
contacts list can have 16,000 names in it? I thought it
was more like 200.

Well, you didn't say that you were looking at a distribution list. You said
you were looking at your contacts list, which most people would interpret to
mean the list in your Contacts folder.

A distribution list is limited to about 125 names.

You can add a count to a custom distribution list form using the technique
described at http://www.winnetmag.com/Articles/ArticleID/16368/pg/2/2.html.
To make this work with existing DLs, you would need to change the
MessageClass on the existing items to point to your new form's class. See
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/newdefaultform.htm#convert for several tools
and scripts to accomplish this.

Also note: The newsgroup interface you are using apparently does not quote
earlier messages in the thread. Please take the time to quote the original
message, or you risk not getting the answer you're looking for.
