Hi,
Trying to trouble shoot a ppt file with a colleague.

She sent me a file that she calims would not print. I
checked it, no security levels activated. She did point
out a slide numbering system that I have never seen
before.

there are 18 slides in this show - when viewed in normal
mode the lower left (as an example) will have this:
5 of 0 ..18

This did not seem to effect my prining capabilities, so I
figured there is something wrong with her color printer.

But - back to the numbering system. I've never seen
this ; any clues why? or how? By the way - she was using
one of the templates I've made accessible to our
corporation, and I'm certain that the template is good.

thanks in advance
Andrew

Choose File, Page Setup
"Number Slides From" is set to 0, isn't it?
That's why you get that odd numbering scheme in edit mode.

I can't imagine that it'd affect the printing, though.
If we can help with that, let us know what printer, what Windows and PPT
versions, whether there's a network involved, what specific symptoms occur
when she prints and so on.

Hi Andy,

This looks similar to an early version of an section of a PowerPoint Add-in
I wrote. A couple of people had asked for this style of slide numbering and
I was able to send out a solution for them individually. If this is the
case, then there were 19 slides beginning with slide number 0. The
numbering is placed into the footer placeholder of the master slide and the
text formatting can be modified from there.

The slide numbering is not dynamic so it does not update automatically, she
may have deleted one of the slides leaving the 18 slides you are currently
seeing.

The slide numbering format, as you have pointed out, is not
self-explanatory, which is why I changed the format to 'Slide 5 (in range
0...18)' in the updated add-in.

There are no components of the add-in that would prevent or interfere with
the printing functions. If you would like me to look at the presentation,
then post back, and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks to Steve, the current version of the add-in is available from:

Hope this helps,

That was it exactly!!

Initially I told her that I could not imagine the file
not being able to print. I told her to check the cue of
her color printer and to also do a test print to a black
and white printer. I asked to her to get back to me,
still waiting. I imagine she may be embarressed to admit
she was simply not being patient with her printer.

thanks for your help, I'll have to remember that.

Bill,

Thanks for your help... I downloaaded the file and will
give it a try. As it turns out she was just impatient
with her printer and she did assign the numbering as zero
like Steve thought she had.

You've been very helpful
Andy

Forgive me Steve, I thought of that, really I did, but ruled it out when he
said there were 18 slides. If its numbered 0...18 there would have to be 19
slides.

Oh well, guess I misread the in-between the line stuff again.

What's to forgive? Two different opinions, two different problems solved,
nobody gets hurt, everybody wins. Her document even printed while we were
bobbing and weaving here. ;-)
