Number of processes running

Is there any reason I should have 27 processes going on at same time? I'm running XP Home Version (service pack 1) with 4 idenitites, only two of which are used.
 
Hi Dave,

That is not an unusual number of processes. I have my machine, pretty well,
stripped and still have 24. About the only things I have running are the AV
and firewall programs.
