number lock key

Hi, I just bought a USB keypad and I can't get it to work because I can't
lock my keypad on my laptop. Above the numbers I have a key that has a F11
NumLK on it, but pressing this key in a variety of ways does not produce my
new keypad to work. How do I lock the numbers on my laptop?

My Dell the <SHIFT><NumLock> toggles the Number lock on/off for the
builtin keyboard.
