How do I format a number to show in thousands with comma seperator. For
example I would like to show 1050040 as 1,050. Thanks for your assistance.

IN EXCEL 2007 take the following action:-

Highlight the cell(s) you wnat to change

- right hand click and select Format Cells (window of same name should
launch)

- Number tab

- click in the box called:-

Use 1000 Separator (,)

Hit OK

If my comments have helped please hit Yes.

Thanks.

sorry, within the Number tab, select Number on the left hand side then:-

- click in the box called:-

Use 1000 Separator (,)

Apologies for error.

Hi Jamal - it should still be more or less the same.

Just get to the Format Cells command / Number tab / then Number on the left
hand side.

I don't think it changed much between the 2 version.

Please hit Yes if my comments have helped.

Hi you are right that the thousand seperator is there. However, the probelm
is if you have use the thousand seperator in the number format then a seven
digit number such as 1000000 is shown as 1,000,000. What I am looking for is
to just show 1,000 (in thousands, I could get it by 1,000,000/1000 = 1,000).
But wanted to find out if there is a custom format that will do the trick. If
you use the custom format of #,; then it shows 1000 and loses the comma. I
can't figure out how to show long numbers in thousands or even millions and
still have the comma. Thanks for your help.

If I understood - you want to display "Millions" as "Thousand".
If so - Custom Format those cells as: #,##0,
Micky
