#Num! when importing from text file

I have a wordpad document that I need to import into Access but I am getting
the #Num! on a field that is all numbers.
 
If it is a text file (as opposed to the other kinds of document that
WordPad can create), a likely cause is that there's something in the
field that the import routine can't interpret as a number: e.g. a l in
place of a 1.
