num lock not working correctly on laptop with numpad

I had to reinstall XP after some work was done on my laptop. Now, the
numlock key makes the letters on the right of the keyboard send numbers (like
many laptop keyboards are supposed to do). But my laptop has a separate
number key pad. Before I reinstalled XP, num lock worked correctly and
turned the number keypad while still letting me type letters.

Do you have the original keyboard drivers? If so try installing those
drivers. May need to check the bios also to see what it is sending to windows.

I recall a similar experience while working on a client's laptop a
couple of years ago--dunno what I did, but I DO remember Googling the make
of computer about how to "fix" the letter-typing resulting in number-output
and finding the settings. Just problematic, IIRC, on smaller laptops
w/insufficient room for full keypad on right end on k-board. HTH, s

Separate numpad on the same "keyboard?" or on a separate keypad that
you connect to the PC?
