every time I open excel I get the following msg:

Cannot delete ntuser.dat. It is being used by another
person or program.

How do I eliminate this?

The excel file you are trying to open might be executing a macro. Disable
Macros and open the document.

There are other reports of different programs that are exhibiting the same
behavior. Can you do us a favor? Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go
to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe (note the period before exe)

and

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile

Right click each of the above keys and select Export. Send the two export
files to (e-mail address removed) Note: This address is not for general
support questions on Windows XP.

Thanks for the idea, but it did not work for me. I also
have the problem with outlook express. Any more ideas?

Thanks anyways. Like I said in my post, the problem started for me when I
tried to copy my address book and mail folders from an old hard drive when I
got this computer. I think I tried replacing the new ntuser.dat with the
old one. This was over a year ago.
Thanks again.
Jeff

NTUSER.DAT is where your portion of the Registry is stored, and short of
deleting the actual account, nothing that I'm aware of should be trying to
delete NTUSER.DAT.......
