We have a technician who recreates a user profile by
copying the local administrator ntuser.dat to the user
profile folder. He does this my logging in as himself (a
domain administrator) then makes the copy. He says it
works perfectly fine. I'm a bit reluctant.
I've always logged in as the local administrator, renamed
the user profile then had the user log back in. From
there, I then copy appropriate folders from his old
profile to his new profile and then recreate mappings and
printers.
However, our technician says that if I copy the
administrator ntuser.dat that it's the same thing but
faster. I find that hard to believe. Seems that
applications installed under the user name or any unique
user configurations would be lost if the local
administrator NTUSER.DAT was copied. Also, seems I recall
that the specific profile consists of more than just the
NTUSER.DAT. so, I am wondering if anyone else has done this
