I have had Xp for about 2 years. In my Windows
directory, there are about 30 directories called
something like: $NtUninstallQ810577$ (Tne stuff after
the Q changes).

They seem to be taking up a LOT of room. Is there a
reason why I can't delete them? At least the older ones
from 2001 and older 2002?

Those $NtUninstall folders are created when you install a
Microsoft Service Pack, a hot fix, or certain security
updates. The "Q######" portion of the folder name
identifies the Microsoft Article number. A search on this
number in the Microsoft Knowledgebase would identify the
patch. Delete only if you are sure you won't ever want to
uninstall the particular patch whose uninstall file you are
deleting.

Hi,

These directories are used by Windows to store uninstall
information for updates to Windows XP (e.g. critical
security updates).

I would say that you can safely delete the older files.
By deleting the older directories you will not be able to
remove the relevant hotfix but since you are not having
any problems I would do it.

Regards,

Tim
