Win2000 Prof. won't boot because ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt.
I want to reinstall win2000, but I was told by Dell
support that if I do, the 650 digital jpeg photos on a
subdirectory under My Documents will be destroyed.

Is there any way short of sending the hard drive to a disk-
recovery outfit to reinstall win2000 and preserve the My
Documents folders?
Thanks anyone!

If you have another hard drive you could make the corrupt
one a slave. This allows you to boot off your "good" hard
drive (just make sure it's NTFS) and when you login since
you are admin on NTFS system you will have the ability to
read/copy/etc files off the slave hard drive where your
jpeg's are.
Your error (ntoskernal) is caused by a number of things
but its effect is it doesn't let the boot up process
continue since it doesn't know where the operating system
is. All your files on your system are still good (most
likely) and you can get at them by the method above.
