ntoskrnl.exe missing boot up error

boot up error invalid boot.ini

<windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
reinstall a copy of the above file


I have a users machine (off site) sending this error on boot up any help
would be appreciated

This type of problem cannot be resolved by remote control.
I suggest you go there in person and try this as a first step

1. Take a floppy disk that was formatted on a Win2000 PC.
2. Copy these files to it:
- ntldr
- ntdetect.com
You can find both in the i386 directory of your Win2000 CD.
3. Create a:\boot.ini. It should look like this:
[Boot Loader]
Timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows
2000 Professional" /fastdetect
(unwrap line)

Now boot with this disk and report the result.
 
this seems to be a HDD error as once i get in to look at the configuration
of the HDD it seems to be scrambled the none of the file name are correct
and the disk is misreporting the size so off to a new HDD
