Hi

I already posted my problem to two different NGs. There
was no reply. I thought maybe this forum would help.

This is the problem:

I have 2 Hard Drives. The 1st is the master with Windows
XP on it but bugged and cannot start. The 2nd has
Windows XP on it and works perfectly.

I would like to format the 1st HD, convert it into slave
and use it for storage. I can see boot files in the 1st
HD. However, when I try to remove it and convert the 2nd
HD into master I would receive an error message
stating "cannot load NTLoader" or something like that.

Can anyone help me ?

Much appreciated.

Hi Rob -

You have a hidden file on your C:\ drive called Boot.ini. This file
contains a list of installed operating systems and the path to them.

Your registry on your D:\ drive installation will also have thousands of
hard-coded links to your D:\ drive, pointing at Windows components and
files, as will all of your installed applications.

If you wish to swap the drives so that so that the current Slave drive
becomes your Master drive, your best bet would be to physically remove the
current Master drive, change the jumper and/or cable position on your
existing Slave drive (effectively setting it as Master) and performing a
clean install of Windows XP.
