my computer wont start :
apparently the NTLDR is missin
any guesses what i can do now, other than buy a hammer!

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, run the Recovery Console. From the command prompt, run

copy X:\I386\ntldr C:\

This assumes C:\ is your boot drive, change it accordingly if another one
is. Substitute the correct CD drive letter for "X".

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]

Hi,

You need to set the system to boot from the CD, it is still trying to boot
from the hard drive.

Looks like the BOOT.INI is not OK
Either the rdisk(x) or, more likely, the partition(x) directive needs to be
realigned

Quickest way to do this is running the Recovery Console from the XP disk and
run a:

BootCFG /Rebuild

Hints:
rdisk() starts with the value 0
partition() however with the value 1

Here is my trouble (WinXP Pro)

NTLDR is missing, so I tried to run the recovery console. Once I chose the recovery console, I got the the blue screen saying there was a problem w/my computer and to reboot, so I did and I would keep getting the the same error. So I went to the Net and downloaded floppy boot disks. I was able to finally get to the Recovery console, did what was recommended, but it kept saying the cd was bad or to make sure the correct cd was installed (it was and the cd is fine). Tried this a number of times and NO LUCK. So, could not recover

Finally, decided to throw in a clean harddrive and install any OS just so I could recover the data from the original Harddrive. Even with a clean harddrive and another OS (Win98 SE) in the CD drive, it immediately says NTLDR is missing. I went into the BIOS and changed the Boot Priorities (tried a number of combo's) and I keep getting the same NTLDR is missing. How is this possible with a clean harddrive and a cd that is set to boot to install a new os

So this is where I am at. I need help resolving this NTLDR issue

Thanks

Bret
