I booted up my computer this afternoon and got this message, NTLDR missing-
after using GoBack my computer is now back, but slower, what happened and
what is this, how do I fix it, unfortunately I don't remember my
administrator password either, so I definitely need help here - I am running
Windows Xp Home Edition, have had it since it first came out

NTDLR,boot.ini, ntdetect, are all part of windows boot files for start-up mainly
Usually if no password was ever given simply press the enter key, when prompted
Also,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scanno
When the graph starts,insert xp cd,exit the info page.When its thru type:CHKDSK C: /
Agree to restart, then type:EXIT Remove xp cd,restart computer

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, run the Recovery Console. From the command prompt, run

copy X:\I386\ntldr C:\

This assumes C:\ is your boot drive, change it accordingly if another one
is. Substitute the correct CD drive letter for "X".

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]

Looks like the BOOT.INI is not OK
Either the rdisk(x) or, more likely, the partition(x) directive needs to be
realigned

Hints:
the directive: rdisk() starts with the value 0
the directive: partition() however with the value 1

Quickest way to do this is running the Recovery Console from the XP disk and
run a:

BootCFG /Rebuild

This tool re-scans your drive(s) for present OS'es and as a resukt it will
rebuild the BOOT.INI file.
