ntldr cannot be found

I have installed XP Home Edition in a new computer on a
reformatted, newly partitioned HD and am getting the
message above. I found the MSKB article which seems to
refer to upgrades over Win98, ME etc. That is not the
case here and I am wondering what the solution is, because
I do not have the Win98 startup disk referred to.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This was a clean install on a totally new system.
