How can i convert a ntfs volume that has been upgraded by
windows 2000 back to ntfs for windows nt?

NTFS is NTFS. you must re-format the drive though to get ride of Windows
2000 and then you can install NT, if you wish.

Actually Chris there are different versions of NTFS that have shipped with
the later versions of Windows.
However you are correct - if you must go back to an older OS you may need to
do a reformat.

I had understood that W2000 and XP ntfs were two different versions and
incompatible.

Dean,

Why can you not backup the 80Gb of data and reformat ???
What were you doing for your backup of that amount of obviously important
data before this issue arose ?

Greetings --

Place the hard drive in a WinNT workstation, delete the problem
partition, then recreate and format it.

Well, then upgrade the WinNT installation to Service Pack 4, or
above, and it will be able to read the partition.
