I am using external HD which moves around in my company as
a media to transfer data.
This HD contains a forlder which i dont want to give
access to anyone in office. Drives are formatted with
NTFS. Problem is when HD is as salve with another machine,
admin of that machine can easily take ownership of the HD
and access the data. Is there anyway i can lock it down
permenently and have just one password to unlock it? It
should be that secured that if i forget the password HD
should be nothing more than just a paper weight :-)
I was going to post this on security group, but i know
that guys into networking are more smarter and this is the
most active group on MS.
Thanks.

I think the only way your going to accomplish this is by using EFS. NTFS
permissions can always be overwritten when the drive is moved to another
machine. That is why if have physical access to hardware then the hardware
is yours(compromised). EFS will need an encryption key to unlock. Be very
careful with it though. Check the help files for it and test before putting
real critical data on this drive. There may also be 3rd party tools that do
this.
