I am unable to boot windows 2000. This happened right after
I changed all permissions by mistake. Now I need to change
permissions to default and it seems the only way to do it
is through DOS. So...can it be done? If so, How?

The error I get is

Cannot find autochk....SKIP AUTOCHK

right after this the system complrtely locks me out and
does not start.

Thank you, Steven!!

I think this may be the solution to my problem where I
removed all permissions from the Everyone Group
(incorrectly assuming that the Administrators were some
how gods above Everyone...lol).

The only thing that article doesn't make clear is how
exactly do I do that? I've never seen an option to choose
WHERE the Groups and Users are stored--I'm a developer NOT
a network admin.

Thanks again, John!

Hi John. Right click the folder to bring up properties and select security.
Then select add and you will see a list of users/groups of which the everone
group will be present. Add the everone group and select allow permissions
which you probably want read/list/execute. On the advanced page you will
want to select replace permissions on child objects. If permissions are
greyed out, that means they are inherited and you will again have to go to
advanced page and uncheck "allow inheritable..." and then a box will pop up
where you can select copy to. --- Steve
