NTFS File Delete from 'DOS'

Dog

guys,

if i want to boot to dos on an XP PC and delete some files how do i do it.

if the drive was FAT i could use win98 disk but it is NTFS

I understood there was a utility called NTFSDos but you could only view
files but not write / delete. Is this still the case?

Help appreciated.

thanks,

dog.

use NTFS - when you want to work from dos - work from the command prompt
chosen from the boot menu after hitting F8 just after MBR runs

You could try Bart's PE-Builder (Preinstalled Environment):

"Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled
Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP
or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC
maintenance tasks.

It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a
graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem
support."

Haven't used it, but it sounds like it might work for you, no?

you cannot access an NTFS partition from dos...

if you have some malware that you are trying to get rid of...
try running msconfig and shutting down everything...
then booting to safe mode...
and hopefull from there you can get rid of the malware...

btw: you may also want to run adawareSE
if it encounters spyware that can't be deleted...
you have an option to let the machine reboot and have it delete the files...
before the OS loads

hitting F8 and booting to the command prompt (not running cmd in xp) - will
give you a great deal of access as nothing is running on the gui - no gui -
no services, no startup apps, no drivers (apart from extremely basic ones) -
You can buy NTFS writers from dos - but why bother when running to command
prompt gives all the access you need. - If you want however you could use
Partition Magic and convert the partition to FAT32 without loosing any data
therefore being able to boot from dos and read/write the partition this
way -
