Hey all-
I recently had a problem with loading Windows XP Pro and a file called
"mup.sys". The computer would simply restart itself after trying to load
this file. The solution I found online would be to disable this file using
the XP recovery console. I successfully got the console running, but it
cannot seem to read the drive. I just get an error about enumerating. It's
not corrupt because NTFSDOS can read it fine. When I used the "map" command
in the recovery console, which lists all drives, the file systems for my
other hard drive showed up (FAT32) but not for my main hard drive (NTFS).
Any suggestions?

I don't think the problem is mup.sys but something trying to be loaded
after that loads. If can see mup.sys on the boot screen then it is
loaded. I suggest you bite the bullet and do a installation recovery.
Boot off the CD, go to the install XP menu, select recovery install.

Just built a system that 'hung' for 1 minuite after loading mup.sys I tried
disabling it too but it made no difference. Finally cured it by updating the
Motherboard Bios. (Asus A7V, yes it is old but it was free).

There is alot about mup.sys on the web but none of it helped me.
