hey,

i wanted to convert a 18GB fat32 partition to NTFS. So i did the convert
command, but when my machine boots, it starts the chkdsk, and then it gives
me the follwing error "insufficient memory".
i have 256 MB RAM and 5 GB free space so this should be enough i think.
Is there anything i'm missing? why this error? what should i check?

Alternative question would be "how to stop making my machine want to convert
every time it boots". I'll continue working on the fat32.

thanx.
Steven.

Back up your important data and run a disk diagnostic utility available
from your drive manufacturer. I think your drive might be ready for a
trip to the bone yard.

For your alternative:

From Start/Run enter; chkntfs /x c:

This disables chkdsk from running on drive C:

Just FYI... I once had this problem on an older machine. The BIOS was
configured with one of those "holes" in memory that used to be popular for
use for video components. I disabled that "feature" in the BIOS and all was
well afterward.
