NTFS Boot Sector Unwriteable

I have a hard drive that worked fine as FAT32 in Windows
98, but when I put it in a Windows XP Home computer, it
says there are bad sectors.

I have converted the drive to NTFS and deleted everything
from it and tried formatting it in Windows and DOS, but
both fail. In DOS, it happens after it asks what I want
to label the drive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Go to the manufacturers web site and see if they have a diagnostics disk that you can download and
run. Many of them can fix errors that are on the drive or can tell you an error code. How old is
the drive? It may still be under warranty.

Thank you very much.

I contacted the manufacturer today. Hopefully I'll get a
reply soon.
