I have a camcorder that I am am trying to capture a one hour tape and load
it into the pc. The camcorder comes with "Pixela" and the pc has MM2 and
Roxio software. All of the software seems to be able to capture the camera
except they all stop recording at approximately the 12 minute mark. I have
tried with AVI and MPEG2 file types and get the same problem. One gives me a
error message saying there is not enough space on the HDD. The hard drive
has 101 Gig's of free space. The movie group suggests it may be a NTFS disk
management problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

If your partition is formatted FAT32 then perhaps you are hitting the file size
limitation. You cannot create a file larger than one byte less than 4 GB on a FAT32
partition.

For more information see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
KB314463 - Limitations of the FAT32 File System in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;314463

And for more information about converting a partition to NTFS see:

KB307881 - HOW TO: Convert a FAT16 or FAT32 Volume to NTFS in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;307881

And please note the sentence in the KB307881 that reads: "it is recommended that you
perform a backup of the data on the volume that you want to convert before you start
the conversion."

The NTFS implementation in Windows XP supports files up to 16 terabytes
(minus 64 kb). As that is much larger than your HD, you are not hitting a
file system limitation on file size.

See

for more info.
