I am troubleshooting a problem with replication EVENT ID
13562.

Based on M knowledge base article 312862, i need to locate
the member object that has null value, the question is how
can we identify the member if the only information i have
is the object ID # cn= c3........

any comments are appreciated

Each DC has 3 basic pieces of information they need for FRS replication -
ntfrsmember, ntfrssubscriber and ntfrssubscriptions. The path in the error
message leads you directly to the member object using adsiedit. For
instance, in the article you mention it provides the following example:

The nTFRSMember object cn=dc1,cn=domain system volume (sysvol
share),cn=file replication service,cn=system,dc=a,dc=com has a invalid
value for the attribute ServerReference.

The path you would see begins at the right and works its way down to the
left. If you were to open adsiedit and begin navigating down from the
domain name (in this case, dc=a,dc=com) you would find a container called
cn=system. Expand cn=system and beneath that is cn=file replication
service, then cn=domain system volume (sysvol share) and you would finally
reach the domain controller ntfrsmember object cn=dc1. Right-click on
cn=dc1, choose Properties and you would find the list of attributes
associated with that object - serverreference is an attribute on that
object and the value for it is invalid or missing. The article walks you
through recreating the missing attribute or object (depending upon what is
indicated in your error), although it may be very confusing to you. If
you're not comfortable with steps in the article, you might not want to
venture down that path without assistance since adsiedit is a low-level
editor and bypasses any protections.

The best document that is available to understand and troubleshoot FRS is
the FRS Monitoring Help File. This compiled html help file contains
detailed information on FRS, its terminology, how it works, what the error
messages mean and how to troubleshoot FRS. If you encounter problems with
FRS at any point in time, you will want to download that file and review
it.

The FRS Monitoring Help File can be found at the following location:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/fileandprint/file/df
s/tshootfrs.mspx

To search for a particular issue, download the compiled html file (called
ultrasound.chm) and open it. Look under the Contents tab to locate the
topic you seek.
