I have a person who had their single w2k domain controller
replaced. The person that replaced gave the new server the
same IP but different name. They didn't remove the other
DC either and now AD has both DCs and the IPs messed up.
Their services such offline files that use AD are not
working.

I've been attempting to use ntdsutil.exe, but have not
been able to connect to a site. List site shows the
default site, but I can not connect to it. I've not used
this tool before and I'm not finding much documentation
for it. Can someone explain or provide instructions for
ntdsutil.exe?

Thanks.

Best can tell here is how the DC was replaced.

1. W2K installed on new server.
2. Added as member to domain.
3. Shared folders copied from old server to new.
4. DCPromo run on new server. Added as second DC in
existing domain.
5. Older shutdown.
6. New server's IP changed to older IP.
7. Rebooted new server.
8. Old server is gone.

When I open DNS or DHCP consoles and attempt to authorize
another server. Here is what I get.

The older server shows up in the list of available servers
with it's original name and IP address.

The new server shows up with it's name but it's old IP
address.

Ping by DNS resolves correctly, but every time I bring up
the authorization screens the old server is there and the
IPs are messed up.

The old server was taken with the individual that did the
work. So access to it is not possible anymore.

Any suggestions welcomed. Hope this understandable.

Thanks.
