Hi guys just a quick question regarding ntbackup,

working with:
windows server 2003,

NTBackup failes to restart for some reason i can only get it to work or
start once per server boot this is becoming a real issue, any idea's? i
have looked around, i turned down the logging in some notes as suggested but
didnt seem to do anything,.

the other thing is how do i "Exclude Folders" within a backup.bks list eg:
in your backup.bks you would have something like,

c:\shared

everything in that folder gets backuped up, problem is i cant restart the
server to get NT Backup to work again to "Excluded" certain folders within
this c:\shared folder .. is there a way to manualy add these excluded
folders and sub's folder/files so that they dont get backed up ?

i dont expect this to be a perm fix but it should get the backups going in
the mean time while i figure out what is up with NTBackup not starting
correctly.

if you can help me out in anyway that would be great,

thank you for your time.

ok guys,

I have found how to exclude certain folders etc from within the backup.bks
file

eg:

c:\shared (will be backed upped and everything within it..)
c:\shared\someotherstuff\ /exclude (will be excluded from the backup and
everything within it..)

im almost certain that this is the way to excluded files/folders can someone
please confirm this if you have time ?

thank you for your time

Yes, that is one way of doing it.

Thanks a lot Jerold,

very handy info,

I also found out why i couldnt run NTBackup as well and why it was failing
everytime i ran it but it remained in the process list,

i was using terminal services client to access the server, so i switched and
setup a third party admin tool, and NTBackup started and functioned
correctly everytime after that .. for some strange reason the terminal
client was causing it to fail .. i find this realy odd but anyhow if anyone
knows Why that was happening, eg: MS webdocs etc can you pls post the info
so i can also understand as much as possible as to why term client was
freaking out the NTbackup.exe. (possible bug ? known issue?)

anyhow thanks again for the link Jerold good stuff,
