I've got a Seagate STT20000A USB tape device and want to
use some cheap (preferably the backup software that comes
with Windows 200) backup software where non-administrators
can backup their PCs. I don't mind giving the user almost
any other rights to make this work but, I just CAN'T give
them admin rights. I've been searching the MS knowledge
base without much luck. I was thinking that there may be
a way for the administrator to run a backup first but save
the backup job. Then try giving rights to run the job to
the non-admin user. That would even work for me. We are
trying to just give our users the portable USB tape drive
and instructions for running the backup. Unfortunately,
the only software that comes with the Seagate tape unit
requires you to have admin rights to run the software. Is
it just me or did someone drop the ball at Seagate to
require admin rights for a portable tape drive. It seems
like the device was built to perform a backup for a
variety of people. Yet Seagate thinks that only
administrators should do backups.
