I am trying to load a backup cd filewith settings and documents. A message comes up stating "provide executable file instead of ntbackup.exe". Can anyone tell me of a way to either create a new ntbackup.exe for my computer or another suitable execuatable file to use?

What program was used to create the backup set stored on the CD?

What version of XP runs on the system that you are trying to transfer the
settings and documents to - Home or Pro?

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the interest.

The cd back up was created on the windows XP home default backup programme and Windows XP home is the version I am trying to download the backup cd onto.

Interesting as NTbackup does not support writing backups to CD.

Have you installed NTBackup on the new Home install? It is not installed by
default and is not included as a component under Add/Remove Windows
Components. It must be installed from the XP CD on a home installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=302894

Suggestion: After NTbackup is installed, copy the backed up file to the
hard drive. Right click the file and remove any Read Only flag (probably
not necessary but lets get rid of this restriction "just in case"). Use
the tools in NTBackup to add the copied file to its catalog (see NTBackup
help file for steps). Then try to restore from it.
