I have a Compaq Presario computer that was given to me with
Windows XP preloaded. While I have the 5 Windows XP System
Restore disks, I do not have the OEM Windows XP
installation disk. I want to install Windows Backup, which
does not install by default in Windows XP Home Edition. How
can I get the file, and is there a way to obtain the
original Windows XP Installation disk. My sister-in-law
gave me the computer, so I have access to the purchase
information...I hope. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Ron,

If the computer you purchased is an OEM (from Dell,Compaq etc), they might
not ship the Operating System CD. (only restore cds).
In that case, you can download ntbackup.msi from here:

Search the internet for "ntbackup.exe." While clearly a violation of
Microsoft's TOS, it's out there on a few tech support type web sites for XP
users with this problem. Be careful about the site you download from. This
is important software, so make sure the source appears to be fairly
reliable.

You may be able to get it from the computer maker.
