howdy partners. well here's the situation: we have nt4
terminal server CALs that we don't use. would we be able
to use them in a way that the client workstations are
running nt4 and the server will be 2000 server? if not,
then would we be able to use those CALs in another way?
thanks.

No. An NT 4.0 TS CAL gives your clients the right to run a NT 4.0
desktop (which it runs on the Terminal Server). So if your TS runs
W2K, the clients need a W2K TS CAL.
The only way to use those licenses is to upgrade them to W2K TS CALs,
if you have a Software Assurance Agreement or some other type of
license agreement that includes an upgrade option.

If you are running a Windows 2000 server, then you need to
purchase Windows 2000 TSCALs and Windows 2000 CALs.

thanks. we're aleady running a terminal server lab with
win2k server with win2k TSCALs and win2k CALs. i guess i
was just wondering what we can do with our nt4 CALs that
we still have? the licensing docs can be worded pretty
funny at times, so i was just clarifying. through my
search, i'm pretty sure the nt4 CALs we have are worthless
unless we put in a nt4 terminal server. thanks regardless.

I've found they make great beer coasters.

In all seriousness, they aren't very useful to you right
now. You may be able to see them on eBay.
