Since I have moved to Spain from the U.K. my PC has being
having trouble and had to re install XP. Every time I log
onto the internet I keep getting a window telling me that
NT Authority is shutting down my PC. I have installed a
firewall which has kept this NT Autority at bay but if i
disable my fire wall NT Authority comes back and shuts
down my PC. Can you please advise me of how to rectify
this matter. Barry Middleton

It's always wise before posting to search this group. "RPC" and "remote"
and "NT" bring up dozens of hits. Also find info on this worm at
http://google.com by searching for "blaster". It's a worm.

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
