NT/Authority???

H

Heidi Quick

My computer will prompt an error code stating as follows:

NT Authority/system

Service terminated unexpectedly. Remote procedure call
(RPC). PC will restart in 60 seconds.

I've tried formating the PC, and then reloading Windows
XP twice and I still receive this error. It's hard to
say exactly what is triggering this but usually I cannot
work on my PC more than about 10 minutes before this
error prompts and my computer shuts down. I'm not
completely computer savy, so any help is greatly
appreciated!!

Thank you!

Apparently, your computer is infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm or one of its variants.
This happened because you have not been using an internet connection firewall and have
neglected to install the critical updates available at the Windows Update website.

What You Should Know About the Blaster Worm and Its Variants

Are you looking for info about the cause of "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)",
initiated by NT Authority\System error message that shuts down Windows
(you might also see svchost.exe error occasionally)?

If you have AOL:

America Online installs its own connection settings that override
the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows XP's
built-in firewall.

Visit the following web site for instructions on downloading
a FREE firewall program for your computer.

Hi Heidi,

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

Close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 which includes the prompt
for the patch once your system has been cleaned.

This script removes all variants of the W32.Blaster.Worm (original, B, C, D,
E and F) and will inform you whether or not the patch is already installed.

Firewall your connection:
Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click your
Internet connection and go to Properties > Click on the
Advanced Tab >and tick protect my computer

This will prevent the PC from shutting down, connect to
the Internet, type this is and follow the instructions:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

N.B. After the virus has been removed it is important to
download the Microsoft critical security patch for XP. The
above link will bring you to this.
