To add another option, you can bring up the new server as a BDC (running
NT4) in the NT4 domain and then promote it to be the PDC. You can then
upgrade this new PDC to Windows 2000.
To test that the upgrade is likely to go smoothly, one option is to pull the
newly-created BDC totally off the network, promote it to PDC and then
upgrade. You can then wipe it and start again to do the actual upgrade.

There are basically 2 ways to move from NT 4.0 to Win 2k, Upgrade your
existing PDC, which you don't want to do, and migration.
To migrate to Win 2k see:

My company bought a new server with W2K server installed. Currently, the
company has one server with NT 4 installed (PDC). I want to connect the W2K
server with the NT 4 machine. I've been told that I have to upgrade NT 4 to
W2K to make this work. I don't want to upgrade the NT 4 machine. I want to
connect the W2K server and setup the domain for the NT 4 machine in the W2K
server. Is there a way to do this? Any help is appreciated.
