NT 200 Internet Explorer problem

After running a virus scan and accepting recommended actions, I can no longer
access the Internet via my NT2000 system.

Using ipconfig /all I see there are no DNS Servers specified/recognized.

On ipconfig /renew I get a "DHCP Server unreachable" error.
I've tried ipconfig /registerdns but that doesn't help

When I check the connection, I see over 1000 packets sent, but 0 received.

I have a second PC running off the same Cable Modem and
using the DNS servers for that PC, configured the NT 2000 for the same, but
still doesn't help.

I also downloaded a copy of the Firefox browser and installed it on the NT
2000 box - still no help.

Any suggestions?

Before you jump to conclusions about the health of the network card check
your basic connectivity.

Hardcode an IP address, your DNS server and Gateway. Then start doing pings
from your computer to loopback, to your switch, your router, your ISP, and
the Internet (www.cisco.com or something).

Work backwards and identify where the problem is exactly. It could just be
DHCP isn't responding or you have 802.1x enabled -- something weird like
that.
