We have several delegated zones and one of them is
viaklix.com which has an NS record of wsd2.nova.net.
wsd2 is a Web Server Directory which actually has the IP
of viaklix.com site. The same DNS server hosts nova.net
which has the A record of wsd2.nova.net.

Now my issue is the IP address of the NS record
wsd2.nova.net disappers time to time. When I try to resove
the name by typing, it does not find it. But I cah browse
and find the name and IP.

Any idea why this is happening.

NA> When I try to resove the name by typing, it does not find
NA> it. But I cah browse and find the name and IP.

These two sentences contradict each other. Please provide a
better description of your problem.

Also, this

NA> We have several delegated zones and one of them
NA> is viaklix.com which has an NS record of wsd2.nova.net.

this

NA> The same DNS server hosts nova.net

and this

NA> which has the A record of wsd2.nova.net.

are all false. Please provide an accurate description of your setup.

Viaklix.com has a delegated zone called www. Going to
Properties of www, I see the Name Server record
wsd2.nova.net but there is no IP address besides it. So I
select it and click "Edit". Now there is wsd2.nova.com
under "Server name" but no IP address. I click "Resolve"
and get a msg that the name can not be resolved. I can
click "Browse" and find the A record for wsd2 from
nova.net and that brings the IP back. The IP will be there
for some time but I notice that it will disapper randomly
after few days.

Now my issue is why "Resolve" do not resolve the name with
the IP. and Why the IP disappers.

Hope this is more clear. Thanks for you help.

You are trying to create an NS record for wsd2.nova.com by using the IP from
wsd2.nova.net?
You need to point it to an A record named wsd2 in nova.com not to wsd2 in
nova.net.
That is why it cannot resovle itself.

To add, just ping wsd2.nova.net and make sure you get a reply. Once you do,
go back into the Nameserver tab and hit resolve. Then it will show up.

So if WSD2 box (wsd2.nova.net) is down, the NS record
wsd2.nova.net, in the properties of the delegated zone
viaklix.nova.com will disappear until the WSD box comes
back up. Is that how the NS record for delegated zone work
in MS DNS?

Thanks for you help.

That is how all DNS delegations work, it must find the "A" record to resolve
it if it loses the IP.
This name is on a Different box with DNS on it?
That is easy to fix. Create a Forward Lookup Zone named "wsd2.nova.net" in
that zone create one host, leave the name field blank, then give it the IP
address for wsd2.nova.net.
