I just tried to set up a VPN on my Win2k Pro machine at home. When I create a VPN connection icon in Network & Dialup Connections, the icon shows with a big red X on it. The status shows "Device missing"

After doing some digging, I went into the Device Manager and checked "Show Hidden Devices". When I look under Network Adapters, I show my NIC, a WAN Miniport (IP), a Packet Scheduler Miniport #3 and a Packet Scheduler Miniport #4. No PPTP Miniport, L2TP Miniport and no RAS Asnyc. Shouldn't those be there and if so, how do I get them back

I have no other problems, there are no problems in the Device Manager and I can connect to my cable modem without a problem.

Hello,

Try restart the machine it if helps.

I've rebooted many, many times. I've also tried using SFC and then re-aplying SP4. No change

I also tried Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 241257. When I do set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and start the device manager, it will show the RAS adapter, but it is grayed out

Is there some registry keys I can check or is there a way to reinstall RAS
